In the opinion of  Steven Rindner, the benefits of a run can get amplified when fresh air and stunning views of nature are added to the mix, which is why today many people are attracted to trail running. The United States has awe-inspiring scenery and amazing running routes. Right from exhilarating city circuits to trails in the remote wildernesses, one can enjoy a plethora of trail running opportunities across the country.

There are many ways to improve fitness levels and get in shape while being out in nature. The United States especially has several trail running sites that are as stunning as sightseeing destinations. They allow runners to enjoy a workout amidst scenic parks and beautiful skylines. Here are a few of the most stunning running trails in the United States:

  • Kalalau Trail, Kauai, Hawaii: The Nā Pali Coast of Kauai is a charming and lush destination. Kalalau Trail is on the bucket list of many runners. Those who complete the full 11-mile trail are rewarded with stunning sights, including soaring sea cliffs, serene waterfalls, pristine white sand beaches, and even remnants of ancient Hawaiian civilization. However, those not quite ready to tackle the entire route, can opt for shorter hikes of two or four miles.
  • Lakefront Trail, Chicago, Illinois: This 18.5-mile path lies along the shore of Lake Michigan and allows people to admire the Windy City in all of its greatness. In fact, the Lakefront Trail is considered to be among the greatest assets of Chicago. Runners would find the blue waters and gentle waves of the Great Lake on one side, and the manicured green parks and soaring skyline of the city on the other side of their path. While on the run, one is likely to pass many iconic landmarks of the city, including the Buckingham Fountain, Navy Pier, and Soldier Field.
  • Wildwood Trail, Portland, Oregon: One can find the beautiful Forest Park just west of downtown Portland. This is almost a 30-mile-long trail that takes runners right from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington Park, to the Forest Park. The Forest Park is one of the largest urban forest reserves in the country.
  • Broken Hill Trail, San Diego, California: This is a relatively easy, short trail in the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. One can complete this trail pretty fast, but are often distracted by the natural beauty surrounding the path. The 2.5-mile loop comprises of two shorter loops that beginner runners can enjoy. The trail is lined by gorgeous wildflowers and provides amazing views of the Pacific Ocean to the runners.

According to Steven Rindner, in addition to the routes mentioned above, going on a run at the Hidden Valley Trail in Utah would also be a good idea for more seasoned runners. Even though this run does start steep, climbing about 600 feet in just .6 miles, it also rewards runners view breathtaking views of rust-colored sandstone.
